How The Randomizer Works.

The Randomizer is the only tool you need for fair random name selection of employees, staff, students, athletes or any personnel involved in testing programs. Whether you're testing for drugs, alcohol or need to generate random name lists for job rotations, The Randomizer is fast, easy and fair.

The Randomizer utilizes a spreadsheet-based record system allowing you to work with existing personnel files or easily create new files in a familiar spreadsheet format. Appropriate for testing single or multiple groups, The Randomizer creates randomized name lists with the click of a button. The best way to clearly explain how The Randomizer works is to lay out the three basic steps of using the program:

  1. Start The Randomizer and import your names into the program.
  2. Select the number or percentage of names you'd like to randomly select from your group.
  3. Click the 'Randomize' button to select the names.

The steps above are the basic steps used to use The Randomizer, below, we'll explain each step in greater detail along with some other capabilities.

In step 1 above, we loaded our personnel names into the program. There are a number of different ways to do this, you can import your names in from an Excel file, or use a comma delineated text file. The process is easy, for import, simply click on the 'Import' button, select a file type, then import the file from any location on your PC or network, it's as simple as opening a document in a word processing program or opening any other kind of file. Since The Randomizer can import text or spreadsheets, it works well with any enterprise HR system that can export data as text. After clicking 'Import' your names are loaded into The Randomizer. There is no limit on the number of names or groups or companies or consortia you can use with the program, simply set up a spreadsheet or text file for each group.

In the second step of the basic steps we outlined, you select a number or a percentage of names you'd like to draw at random from your list of names, you can pick any number or percentage from the group. In step 3 of the basic steps, we clicked on 'Randomize' and our names were selected at random and sent to a random list grid within The Randomizer interface. You may save this random list of names as an Excel spreadsheet file, a text file, or a comma delineated (.csv) file, you may also print or email your random list when you are finished.

After names are loaded into The Randomizer, you can enter a number or percentage of names you'd like selected.
Simply click the 'Randomize' button to select names at random and sent them to the random list grid.

In addition to the basic steps there are other capabilities and tasks that The Randomizer can perform. For example, after you do your random draw, you can assign random test dates to each individual. There are date presets for random dates at a year interval, quarterly, monthly or you can enter any period of time you'd like, so if you need to assign random test days for the next week, simply enter 5 (or 7) in the days control and click to generate random dates spanning the next 5 days - the dates are assigned at random and matched with each person on your random list. You can sort your random list by date to find everyone that needs to be tested on a specific date.

You can open your randomized lists at any time and enter test result notes for auditing and record keeping, you can also sort the list by name, date, or result. This gives you the capability of finding everyone in a given list who has tested positive in the past time interval. If your testing program was to ever be audited, you can easy open, print, and/or export your random test records.

The Randomizer is super-easy to use and extremely versatile. It's fast, fair and inexpensive, runs on Windows 95, 98, Me, NT, 2000, XP, Vista (32 and 64 bit), and Windows 7, and will run over a network. Unlimited phone support if you questions - 419 345 7220.
